3D Modelling

Over the past week, the 3D modelling team at Depths of Erendorn has made significant progress on the bird models. They completed texturing one variant, showcasing an eagle with distinct, detailed feathers. This meticulous attention to texture brings the model to life, enhancing its realism and visual appeal. The team has now begun work on texturing the remaining bird variants, ensuring each one is uniquely detailed to add diversity and depth to the game's enemies. Examples of the work completed by the team can be seen below.

Set Piece Design

Over the past week, the set piece design team at Depths of Erendorn completed the thrones intended for the leadership buildings throughout the game. These thrones have been given a variety of textures to suit the different types of leadership buildings, providing the team with a range of options as they begin to set dress the initial settlement for its rebuild. An example of the textured throne assets can be seen below.

Programming

Client

This week, the client team at Depths of Erendorn focused on further development of the XP bar and addressing bugs in the dry testing environment. Although bug fixes were ongoing, the primary emphasis was on integrating new content. The team encountered some initial issues with getting the XP bar to display correctly, which required alterations to the underlying mathematics to ensure accurate progress display. These issues have since been resolved, and the XP bar is now back in testing and expected to be ready for implementation.

Server

Over the past week, the server team at Depths of Erendorn has undertaken two major tasks now that adventures are in a much better state. First, the team has begun re-enabling NavEdits, which are pieces of code that modify the surrounding landscape to fit a set piece or other 3D model. This will allow for the re-integration of dungeons into the game, which had to be temporarily set aside when the game's grid was converted from 2D to 3D. Additionally, the team has been working on creating the server-coordinator and queue manager program. This new core infrastructure will change how servers and player populations are handled. Player numbers and session assignments will now be stored in the cache, enabling players to reconnect to the server they were last on if necessary. The code for these changes is nearly ready and is expected to switch over in two weeks, following the completion of the player-facing queue infrastructure and a new login endpoint for the client.

Sound Design

Over the past week, the sound team at Depths of Erendorn has completed the audio for several new abilities, including Magic Binding, Mindlock, Parasites, and Rapid Requisition. Each ability has been given distinct audio cues to ensure they stand out during battles, enhancing the player's immersion and gameplay experience. These new audio pieces join the roster of level 3 abilities now integrated into the engine. Examples of the work completed by the team can be seen in the video below.

Environment Art

Over the past week, the environment team at Depths of Erendorn has undertaken substantial enhancements to the settlement area, making it larger and more engaging for players. A river now flows through the centre of the settlement, adding a dynamic element to the landscape. This involved significant implementation and experimentation with the river system. To accommodate these changes, the team made various landscape modifications, ensuring a seamless integration of the new features. Additionally, more settlement houses were created, and old set dressing was removed to maintain a cohesive aesthetic. The market tents were increased in scale to better fit the new layout, and shoreline waves were added to the ocean, further enriching the visual and immersive quality of the game environment. Examples of the work completed by the team can be seen below.
